Radiotherapy treatment department

Our radiotherapy department is the sole NHS radiotherapy provider for Greater Manchester, although we also treat patients from Cheshire, Lancashire and beyond. A vital key to long-term survival for cancer patients is the immediate access to radiotherapy, particularly treatment with our fifteen linear accelerators.

Our radiotherapy department has a long tradition of research, innovation and world firsts which means our patients have access to the latest equipment and treatments as well as access to the latest clinical trials.

We have 2 centres in Oldham and Salford to deliver radiotherapy at other centres in Greater Manchester, bringing the treatment closer to patients' homes. Both centres have two state-of-the-art linear accelerators and a CT simulator.

The Salford centre offers a specialist stereotactic radiosurgery service which is currently used to treat small malignant and benign brain lesions. This provides a highly specialist state-of-the-art service within the Greater Manchester area that previously patients had to travel afar to receive.

Over the last few years we have had substantial investment in new and replacement equipment to expand and improve our radiotherapy treatment. On our site in Withington, we operate 11 linear accelerators, a superficial radiotherapy unit, two CT simulators and a CT scanner. Everyone in our multidisciplinary team has helped develop and maintain our ISO accredited service since 1992.
