Elective and work experience requests

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust receives a high number of elective and work experience requests. Unfortunately it is not possible to accept all of these requests.

This is to ensure that the clinical and patient areas are not overwhelmed with visitors, and that visitors receive a good quality experience.

Please note: work experience requests at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust have now re-opened. See 'Work experience (non-medical)' below to apply.

If you have a strong interest in Oncology, please email the-christie.medicaleducation@nhs.net with your required dates and specific area of interest. As a Trust we will try to facilitate these requests as far as possible without them having an impact on other educational placements.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate these requests at The Christie. We do try and accommodate as many students as we can however due to our commitments to the Manchester Medical School we do not have capacity to accept elective students from medical schools outside of the UK.

You may be better applying to a larger Trust such as University Hospital of South Manchester (Wythenshawe), Central Manchester Foundation Trust (Manchester Royal Infirmary) or Salford Royal Foundation Trust (Hope Hospital).

All future elective requests are temporarily suspended until further notice!

There are a number of wards and departments which accept elective placement requests. Elective placements must form part of your university programme and individuals should complete the following application form.  For more information please contact mathew.stephenson@nhs.net or telephone 0161 918 7367 to discuss available options.

The Christie run a structured programme in conjunction with schools in the local area. Students within the local area are advised to check with their career advisor if their school or college is part of the programme.

We host students from a number of universities and programmes throughout the North West. In addition to elective placements, there may be opportunities to gain work experience in an oncological setting. This can be arranged locally in agreement with the department/ward manager of your chosen department/area.

Please note: we are not currently accepting applications for work experience. Please check back to this page as we will reopen applications soon.
