Strike action between Monday 2 October to Thursday 5 October 2023

Consultants and junior doctors at The Christie will both strike between 7am on Monday 2 October to 7am on Thursday 5 October 2023. Both consultants and junior doctors will still provide emergency care during their strikes.

We are proactively contacting patients with appointments that may be affected by this strike. If you have an appointment at the Trust on any of these dates, please continue to come to The Christie and our other centres as planned unless we contact you to tell you otherwise. There may be longer waits than usual in clinics during this time.

Please do not call to check if your appointment is still going ahead.

International systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) advice

The Christie systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) unit is the largest single site facility in Europe.

The Christie is responsible for the safe delivery of over 49,000 treatments a year. In addition, some treatments are administered in the large network of outreach services consisting of 6 other hospital sites, 1 medical centre, 4 hospices and at The Christie at Macclesfield. The Christie also manages its own home care service.

We provide advice to clients on:

  • The establishment of SACT services
  • Chemotherapy delivery close to home
  • Chemotherapy delivery in the patients home
  • Establishing nurse led services to deliver SACT against agreed protocols
  • Setting up an ambulatory SACT service for haematological cancers

Please contact us for more information about our services in this area.
