Professional biography

Dr Wilson graduated in medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1988 and, after working as a junior doctor in the UK, spent four years in Australia, working firstly in general medicine and then at Advanced Trainee level in Medical and Radiation Oncology in Sydney. After returning to the UK, he completed specialist training in Medical Oncology at St James's University Hospital in Leeds. He was appointed to the post of Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Christie in 2002.

Dr Wilson is a senior member of the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Groups at The Christie and is closely involved in the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Research Programmes. He is also principal investigator in a number of national and international trials at The Christie.

He has a particular interest in complex metastatic breast and bowel cancer and the treatment of liver metastases and believes in personalised oncology care, where maintaining the patient's lifestyle is paramount.

He is lead clinician for Selective Internal Radiation Therapy for liver tumours and the targeted liver tumour programme at The Christie.
