Professional biography
Professor Somervaille trained in Medicine at Imperial College London before undertaking specialist training in Haematology at University College London. He has been an Honorary Consultant in Haematology at The Christie since 2007 where he has a sub-specialty interest in myeloid malignancies including myelofibrosis, polycythaemia vera and essential thrombocythaemia. He is also a Senior Group Leader within the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute where he heads a research team investigating the biology of myeloid cancers, with a particular focus on the identification and development of new treatments for leukaemia.
