Professional biography

Dr Haji-Michael qualified from University College London in 1985 and initially trained in respiratory and general medicine before seeing the light and changing to anaesthesia and critical care. He held a wide variety of different posts during his training, including the London helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS), Red Cross anaesthetist in Kenya, and a research fellow in intensive care in Brussels before coming to Manchester as a consultant at both Wythenshawe and The Christie in 1998.

In 2005 he transferred fully over to The Christie site where he was involved in the new critical care and anaesthesia service, and the critical care unit development, design and build. He was the clinical lead for this new service from 2005 to 2009, and the Director of Acute and Critical Care since 2011
