Responsibilities

Dr Chakrabarty is the current Head of Histopathology. She undertakes reporting of in-house biopsies and surgical resection specimens, focusing on gastrointestinal pathology. She also undertakes pathology reviews and provides an opinion (pathology consultation) on referred cases.

She is lead pathologist for gastrointestinal pathology at The Christie, the peritoneal tumour and pseudomyxoma peritonei service team and GI neuroendocrine tumour team. She is network lead pathologist for the anal cancer service.

Professional biography

Dr Chakrabarty obtained her medical degree (MBBS) from India in 1993 and her postgraduate degree (MD) through training in pathology and a thesis, from India, in 1996. She then underwent specialist training in Histopathology from the North West Deanery in the UK and obtained specialist qualifications (FRCPath, Histopathology) from the Royal College of Pathologists, London, in 2002.

She was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2004, following which she began her career as a consultant. She is pathology lead for The Christie's Gastrointestinal Disease Group and leads mainly in peritoneal surface tumours of colorectal/appendiceal origin and pseudomyxoma(The Christie is one of two National Commissioning Group specialist treatment centres for these conditions).

She is also pathology lead for the regional GI Neuroendocrine Tumour Service (certified by the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society as a Centre of Excellence) and network pathology lead for anal cancers.
