Professional biography

Dr Carter is an Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology in the Experimental Cancer Medicine Team at the Christie NHS Foundation trust. She is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Experimental Cancer Medicine at the University of Manchester.

Dr Carter attended medical school at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London. She completed her general medical training in London and the North West. She was accepted into the specialist training program in Medical Oncology at the North West Deanery in 2008. She commenced a Cancer Research UK - AstraZeneca Fellowship in 2012 during which she was based in the laboratory of Professor Caroline Dive at the CRUK Manchester Institute. She was awarded a PhD at the University of Manchester in 2015 for her research focusing on the genomic profiling and characteristics of circulating tumour cells in patients with small cell lung cancer. After achieving her CCT in Medical Oncology in 2015, she undertook a clinical fellowship in experimental cancer medicine in the Experimental Cancer Medicine Team at The Christie.

Dr Carter took up her current post in 2017 in which she focus on the development of early phase clinical trials of new anti-cancer treatments and the development of translational assays.

Research Interest

Development of new anti-cancer treatments through early phase clinical trials.

Educational Interests

Dr Carter has a strong interest in medical education supervising medical students, junior doctors and allied health professionals. She is a member of the faculty of the MRes in Experimental Medicine at the University of Manchester.
