The treatment centre was funded by a joint project between Wigan, The Christie and Macmillan to provide 13 treatment spaces and some outpatient clinics for specific disease groups, administering up to 4,000 treatments a year.

The Christie cancer unit at Wigan holds consultant-led SACT clinics at the Cancer Centre at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and treatment is delivered by chemotherapy nurses employed by Royal Bolton Hospital.
