Using the Pharmacy

The Christie Pharmacy is a specialist pharmacy for cancer medicines. When you visit The Christie Pharmacy, our staff will help you get the medication your doctor has prescribed for you.

Following a few simple steps will make sure your visit to the Pharmacy is as easy as possible.

Your first visit to The Christie Pharmacy

Make sure you bring your prescription to the Pharmacy staff as soon as your Christie doctor has given it you. The Pharmacy staff will not be able to start processing your prescription until you do this, so you could be waiting longer if you don’t speak to them as soon as you can.

Once you’ve given us your prescription, we’ll give you a ticket with a number on it. You can see this number on our order status screens, so you’ll be able to see when your prescription is ready.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to wait in the Pharmacy reception while we get your prescription ready. We have order status screens in the Oak Road reception area where you can make use of our comfortable seating areas or get refreshments from WHSmith or Marks & Spencer.

Please be prepared to wait some time for your medication. This is because cancer medication can be complex so it can require a lot of work to put together.

Can you take your Christie prescription to another pharmacy?

You can’t take your prescription from The Christie to another pharmacy outside the hospital. This is because our consultants generally send prescriptions electronically to the Pharmacy and this system isn’t used elsewhere.

What to do if you need more medication

For certain types of medication, we might only give you a few days’ supply of this. If you need more, we may give you a GP referral form so you can continue your course of medicine.
