Strike action between Monday 2 October to Thursday 5 October 2023

Consultants and junior doctors at The Christie will both strike between 7am on Monday 2 October to 7am on Thursday 5 October 2023. Both consultants and junior doctors will still provide emergency care during their strikes.

We are proactively contacting patients with appointments that may be affected by this strike. If you have an appointment at the Trust on any of these dates, please continue to come to The Christie and our other centres as planned unless we contact you to tell you otherwise. There may be longer waits than usual in clinics during this time.

Please do not call to check if your appointment is still going ahead.

Oncology cytogenetics

Oncology cytogenetics at The Christie Pathology Partnership is a specialist regional service, which provides genetic testing to aid diagnosis of leukaemia and other tumours.

Malignant diseases are often classified by their genetic abnormalities and certain cytogenetic tests are essential for the optimal diagnosis and treatment stratification of cancer patients. Increasingly, cancer drugs are being developed that target specific genetic lesions, which therefore require a predictive genetic test.

The department is the nominated service for leukaemia cytogenetics for local cancer networks. We work closely with specialist Histopathology departments to provide FISH testing for the diagnosis of various solid tumours and are continually developing assays to expand the diagnostic FISH service. We would be delighted to discuss your genetic testing requirements.

The Oncology Cytogenetics laboratory is UKAS accredited (ref. no. 8697), complies with professional standards issued by the Association for Clinical Genetic Science (ACGS) and participates in all relevant EQA schemes (GENQA/UKNEQAS).
