Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)

This is a highly specialised type of radiotherapy treatment which delivers a high dose of radiotherapy to a small area of the brain.

This treatment is only available in The Christie at Salford. We deliver it using a modified linear accelerator (a radiotherapy machine) called a Novalis Tx.

SRS is used to treat some small benign brain tumours (vestibular schwannomas and meningiomas) and some small brain metastases (tumours which have spread into the brain from other parts of the body). It is not routinely used in the treatment of most primary brain tumours, and is not the correct treatment for everyone. Your doctor can discuss this with you and answer any questions.
