Strike action between Monday 2 October to Thursday 5 October 2023

Consultants and junior doctors at The Christie will both strike between 7am on Monday 2 October to 7am on Thursday 5 October 2023. Both consultants and junior doctors will still provide emergency care during their strikes.

We are proactively contacting patients with appointments that may be affected by this strike. If you have an appointment at the Trust on any of these dates, please continue to come to The Christie and our other centres as planned unless we contact you to tell you otherwise. There may be longer waits than usual in clinics during this time.

Please do not call to check if your appointment is still going ahead.

A world-renowned ITTU offering courses and diplomas for Integrative Therapists, Allied Health Professionals, Nurses and Researchers

Massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Mindfulness, Relaxation, End of Life Approaches

Welcome

Welcome to The Christie School of Oncology’s Integrative Therapies Training Unit.

As a world renowned ITTU unit we are delighted to offer a range of educational events for Integrative Therapists, Allied Health Professionals and Researchers. The content of some of our courses are also suited to Nurses and Medical Staff.

We have been proudly supporting all of our students for more than 20 years, providing them with well researched, informative and evidence based educational events. Our team of both internal and external fully qualified facilitators are all passionate about producing and delivering an extensive programme of events, which we are sure you will love.

Have a look through our brochure to discover the range of events we offer. You can book directly online through Eventbrite but if you have any queries you can contact us at  the-christie.ittu@nhs.net

We hope to welcome you on one of our events in the very near future!

COVID-19 Safe Protocol

In light of strict social distancing and restricted footfall measures at The Christie, we have changed the way we deliver our courses.

For those educational events that are best delivered face-to-face e.g. touch therapy/reflexology courses, we shall deliver these at another location. Attendees may be asked to complete a Lateral Flow upon arrival and to wear PPE. We may also ask attendees to get a PCR test prior to the event and bring the results with them.

If COVID restrictions are reinstated then, where possible, we will convert the course to being delivered virtually.

For those educational events that work well being delivered virtually e.g. Mindfulness, Clinical and Practical Issues in Cancer Care etc. we shall continue to deliver these virtually, until a time when it is considered that it is safe to lift all COVID-19 restrictions.

We are excited however to be able to deliver our educational events to you in the best method possible, whilst keeping everyone safe.  We hope this will make learning more accessible, allowing professionals to take part in our courses, regardless of location and restrictions.

If you have any concerns regarding booking onto one of our educational events during these uncertain times, then please see our cancellation policy or drop us an email.

Mailing List

If you would like to receive the latest updates about our study days, diplomas and conferences direct to your inbox, then sign up to our mailing list and specify ‘integrative therapies’ as your area of interest.

We would like your input

Please could you spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey to indicate which courses you would like to see go “virtual” and help us to finalise our programme moving forward.

Bespoke Training Courses

Bespoke training courses are available for healthcare organisations, in situations where it would be more cost effective for us to deliver the course to a group on your own site, rather than sending a group of attendees to The Christie.  We offer this in groups of 8-12 delegates on dates that are mutually agreeable with both parties.

Managing Anxiety and Panic: Compassionate Care in High-Tech Places and Calming interventions to interrupt and overcome

Founded on an ethos of compassion and self-care, THE CHRISTIE 5+ CORE CALM approach has been intentionally designed to teach rapid relaxation strategies for health care specialists working under pressure in modern high-tech health care settings. The content is tailored to meet the needs of each specific healthcare team and the techniques are simple, effective, and easy to adapt and integrate into any daily procedural routine.

Each technique has been developed and tested ‘in the field’ and is supported by evidence from neuroscience and cognitive behavioural therapies. The aim of the techniques is to intercept anxiety, minimise the risk of trauma and enhance collaborative relationships with patients. The techniques are particularly suited for healthcare professionals who work with patients challenged by:

  • Panic and Anxiety
  • Pain and Discomfort
  • Needle Anxiety and Phobia
  • Claustrophobia
  • Breathlessness

This course can be adapted to meet the needs of staff in any environment including areas where staff are challenged by working with patients with dementia.

Note: This course can be delivered virtually.
