The MHO Regulations (1992) as amended 2002- define manual handling as:...any transporting or supporting of a load (including the lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving thereof) by hand or bodily force.
The load can be an object, person or animal.
Moving and handling should be avoided where ever possible – if not risks need to be assessed and controlled effectively using the ergonomic risk assessment tool (TILE)
On-going training and education is provided for all staff aligned with national NHS Core Skills and current legislation and guidance.
