Paula Farr, Christie member

As a volunteer at The Christie, Paula sees first-hand the positive impact The Christie has on its patients. She wants to encourage other people to become members of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust to help people.

"I am a long-time supporter of the NHS and feel very lucky and privileged to be part of The Christie family. I was fortunate to secure a place as a volunteer, via the NHS Help Force, and was delighted when my application was accepted. I have huge admiration for The Christie – its staff, patients and their families – and wanted to support this much valued and respected hospital in the community in which I live.
“The Christie’s reputation as one of Europe’s leading cancer centres is well documented, but I know from experience that it offers much more than world class health care. The sense of community and teamwork, and a shared commitment to providing pastoral care and support to patients and families at a very challenging time in their lives, is plain to see. As a volunteer I can do my bit, however small, test my interpersonal and professional skills, support the team and meet truly inspiring people, which is immensely satisfying, stimulating and rewarding.
“To anyone who may be thinking of becoming a member, go for it! It’s a serious business, but you’ll make new friends and have fun, too; and you’ll learn more about people, patience, tolerance and resilience than you ever will from a text book.”
