Brian Turner, Christie member

As a former Christie patient, Brian became a member of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust to make a difference. Here, he talks about the positive impact members can have on The Christie’s services.

“I became a member initially to find out more about The Christie, and as a retired scientist and teacher, to learn more details about cancer treatment.
“I wanted to put something back to the organisation that quite literally saved my life. With my initial diagnosis, without The Christie, I doubt I would still be here. The companionship of fellow patients at our regular membership functions, realising we are a select group with a mutual bond and the opportunity to meet leading experts, and getting the chance to learn about and to question them about their work. Membership gives us an opportunity to offer a ‘patient's eye view’.
“If you are thinking about becoming a member of The Christie I would say just do it! The membership is drawn from a very wide range of people from all walks of life. Patients, loved ones, family and carers; there are no bars to membership, no qualifications needed. All are welcome and everybody has a point of view to offer from their own particular journey.
“I am always happy to take part in any membership projects and events.”
