Global IT Outage Update

Every day we care for and treat hundreds of patients from Greater Manchester and beyond who come through our doors.

Today's global IT outage affected many organisations including ours but to put it into context, this outage affected less than a third of our patients.

Our staff worked tirelessly to deliver as many chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments as possible and continue to finalise plans for those we were unable to see today due to issues affecting our supplier.

Thank you for being understanding and bearing with us. Unless our teams contact you, please attend for your appointment as planned.

We continue to work with our supplier to resolve this issue and prioritise our most clinically urgent patients. We apologise for any delays that have occurred as a result of this.

Any further updates will be published on our website and social media channels (Facebook and X/Twitter)

The Christie supporting the Rongqiao Group

Establishing a world-class oncology unit in The Fujian Lin Memorial Hospital in Fuzhou

In 2018, The Christie partnered with a group of UK healthcare organisations as NHS Northumbria International Alliance to provide expertise to the Rongqiao Group in China.

Rongqiao is a family-owned developer with experience mainly in the residential, hotel and education sectors. It now works on a number of social projects intended to improve access to high-quality education and healthcare in the eastern province of Fujian, mainland China.

A contract was signed to support the development of the Fujian Lin Memorial Hospital in Fuzhou, the province’s capital. The project was to offer a full range of patient services and with a focus on rehabilitation, research and education. Through this partnership, The Christie shared specialist advice to support the development of a world-class oncology unit within the hospital.

The Christie supported stage 1 and 2 of this project to date, sharing clinical and technical expertise in the development of the Oncology Clinical Model. This included advising on service scope and patient pathway specifications, through to more detailed descriptions of core treatments and shared service access requirements, alongside input into the design of the oncology facility and workforce.

Dr Lip Wai Lee, consultant clinical oncologist, was the clinical lead for the project at The Christie.

Watch Dr Lee talk here about the mutual benefits of such a project, both in terms of improving the outcomes and experience of patients who access the services in Fuzhou and the resources generated from this project that enabled an international fellow to be employed in the clinical oncology service at The Christie.

What our partners said

"Working with The Christie through the NHS Northumbria International Alliance represents a major step forward in realising our long-term vision to support improved care for cancer patients in China, starting with a world-class oncology unit within our new hospital facility, The Fujian Lin memorial Hospital in Fuzhou.
"The partnership is making great progress in developing the best model of care for our patients alongside the optimum design for the oncology unit that will meet the very best international standards and deliver improved outcomes and experience for our patients."

- Jared Djuhar, Board Director, Rongqiao Group
