Professional biography

Professor Vernon is a Consultant Geriatrician working in Senior Adult Oncology and Associate Medical Director (Neighbourhood Oncology), a Visiting Professor at the University of Chester and Chair of the Northwest Clinical Senate. He led and supported the development of the Academic Centre for Healthy Ageing (ACHA) hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust and Queen Mary University London.

Professor Vernon is currently Chair of the British Geriatrics Society Ethics and Law Special Interest Group, national spokesperson on assisted dying and was the National Clinical Director for Older people at NHS England between 2016 and 2020.
