Responsibilities
Dr Arthur provides a clinical oncology (radiotherapy) service to patients with colorectal cancer referred from Wigan, Salford and Oldham and participates in weekly meetings with her colorectal colleagues at these hospitals.
Dr Arthur’s particular interest is in the delivery of radiotherapy for rectal cancer. Indications for radiotherapy to the rectum may include: to downsize the tumour prior to planned surgery, or, to achieve a complete response and avoid the need for surgery, or, to help local symptoms such as pain or bleeding. She is actively involved in clinical trials exploring new radiotherapy indications or techniques and is passionate about delivering personalised care to patients.
In addition, Dr Arthur also treats patients from Manchester and Lancashire who have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, providing a weekly outpatient clinic and provision of inpatient radioiodine treatment. She attends weekly meetings with thyroid colleagues to agree care plans.
Professional biography
Dr Arthur graduated from the University of Dundee in 2004, worked in Glasgow and Edinburgh until 2011 and subsequently completed her clinical oncology training in Manchester in 2013. She was appointed as a Consultant at the Christie in January 2014.
In addition to her clinical duties, Dr Arthur is a member of the Greater Manchester Colorectal Pathway Board, involved in developing care pathways for patients with colorectal cancer and ensuring our patients continue to receive excellent care. She was also involved in developing UK-wide guidance regarding radiotherapy delivery for rectal cancer.
Research Interest
Dr Arthur is actively involved in several UK rectal cancer trials, aiming to improve outcomes for our patients. This includes contributing to trial development and radiotherapy quality assurance, but also discussing suitable clinical trials with patients attending the Christie.
