Professional biography
Dr Abutaleb is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in the treatment of sarcoma and paediatric cancers using proton beam therapy and advanced photon radiotherapy.
He graduated from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, where he completed his medical degree and a Master's in Clinical Oncology. After gaining oncology experience in Egypt and Kuwait, and obtaining the MRCP (UK), Dr Abutaleb moved to the UK to complete specialist Clinical Oncology training at The Christie and Royal Preston Trusts, including a fellowship in Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) at The Christie.
Dr Abutaleb's clinical practice focuses on adult, teenage and young adult, and paediatric sarcomas. He is a core member of the National Ewing Sarcoma Advisory Panel and has particular interests in proton beam therapy, radiotherapy quality improvement and medical education. He leads The Christie International Proton Fellowship Development Programme and is actively involved in training, supervision and research.
Research Interest
Dr Abutaleb’s research interests include sarcoma, paediatric oncology and advanced radiotherapy techniques, with particular interests in proton beam therapy, treatment outcomes and service development. He remains actively involved in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives and collaborative projects aimed at improving outcomes and experiences for patients with cancer.
Educational Interests
Dr Abutaleb has a strong interest in medical education, training and professional development within clinical oncology and proton beam therapy. He leads The Christie International Proton Fellowship Programme and is actively involved in the supervision and training of fellows, specialty trainees and international clinicians.
As a Clinical and Educational Supervisor and Medical Appraiser, Dr Abutaleb supports the development of future oncology professionals and contributes to national and international teaching in radiotherapy, proton beam therapy, sarcoma and paediatric oncology.
