Nuclear medicine

The Nuclear Medicine Group operates the Nuclear Medicine Clinic and Radiopharmacy on the Christie site, and provides radiopharmaceuticals and physics services to Nuclear Medicine departments in the North West.

Magnetic resonance imaging

The MR physics service at The Christie includes several clinical scientists working across the hospital and with over 40 scanners in North West NHS trusts.

Diagnostic radiology and radiation protection

The services provided by Christie Medical Physics and Engineering (CMPE) provide the professional and technical advice and support to enable employers to meet the requirements of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 and other relevant legislative requirements.

Radiotherapy physics

The Radiotherapy physics group provides scientific, technical and training support to the Radiotherapy department at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust. Our aim is to enable the safe and accurate delivery of radiotherapy.

Medical physics outreach and recruitment

Within Christie Medical Physics and Engineering (CMPE), we have healthcare scientists, healthcare science practitioners (often called technologists) and clinical engineers working as a large team.

Clinical engineering

Clinical engineering forms a part of The Christie Medical Physics and Engineering (CMPE) and is responsible for managing medical equipment.

Non-ionising electromagnetic radiation

Optical radiation is used in healthcare to treat a wide variety of conditions including neonatal jaundice, psoriasis and skin cancers, and to perform laser surgery.
