Congratulations to Professor Corinne Faivre-Finn, who received the prestigious Breur Award at this year’s European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) Congress in Vienna.
The Breur Award is ESTRO’s gold medal and highest honour, recognising a member’s outstanding contribution to the advancement of radiotherapy in Europe.
Professor Faivre-Finn, Consultant Oncologist at The Christie and Professor of Thoracic Radiation Oncology at The University of Manchester, was given the award for her work in radiotherapy for lung cancer.
“I was genuinely moved when I was told I’d received this award,” she says. “Recognition matters; it validates the work we do, the choices we make, and the impact we strive to have. It also sends an important message to others, particularly women, who are still underrepresented in leadership roles. Creating meaningful opportunities for early-career researchers and championing diversity in leadership are central priorities for me.
“This award is deeply personal. It represents a journey that has been anything but linear – full of challenges and perseverance, but ultimately incredibly rewarding.”
Professor Faivre-Finn trained in Paris and joined The Christie as a trainee in clinical oncology in 1998 before becoming a consultant in 2001.
She took on an academic post at The University of Manchester in 2013, which gave her the opportunity to develop her career in cancer research.
Many of the clinical trials she has been involved in have changed medical practice and shaped international guidelines.
