Kerry Swinson is the winner of The Christie’s You Made a Difference Award for March 2026.
The following comments were made about Kerry in the March nominations. Judges picked her out as a very deserving winner and said that the comments made about her showed how she represents The Christie values and behaviours.
“Kerry is the epitome of a passionate and caring healthcare support worker within the NHS. She is always cheerful, willing, and friendly to patients and their families and clearly remembers individuals and ensures they have a person-centred experience, whether this is when attending in outpatients or phlebotomy. She supports clinicians throughout clinics and often goes above and beyond the requests made to her and is often the one who will stay late despite arriving early. She ensures the clinics are well organised and coordinated and she shows excellent leadership to her peers and is such a positive asset to the team and I would like her to know how much she is appreciated and valued.”
“Kerry has been with us since May 2023 as a senior healthcare support worker within Macclesfield and her role entails working across a number of our services including outpatients clinic, phlebotomy, SACT and radiotherapy.
“Her role entails supporting clinicians in the clinic hub with their patients and this includes rooming them, height and weight, co-ordination of paperwork and consents etc. Phlebotomy in addition to bleeding the patients who attend for appointments and ensuring these are ready for sending to Withington by courier or to our local provider, preparing the paper request forms to accompany the blood tests in advance of the next day’s appointments, updating patients notes on CWP etc.
“When in radiotherapy and SACT, the tasks are variable depending on the needs of the service and this may involve looking after unwell patients or escalating to the clinical staff when patients are reporting any symptoms, ensuring all IPC procedures are followed, SATs/NEWS scores, etc.
“As mentioned in the nomination Kerry always goes above and beyond in her role, showing leadership to her peers and takes the initiative in many situations and utilises her time well. She is always willing to work extra shifts when necessary and always has a willing approach to any tasks. The clinicians who she supports in clinic always have positive feedback about her, even though she may only rotate into their clinic a couple of times a month.
“Most significantly, Kerry has a wonderful relationship with many of the patients, and she immediately puts them at ease, reassuring and supporting them, and often building a rapport with those who attend on a regular basis. She truly epitomises The Christie values.
