Enabling education, training, research and clinical activities
In spring 2024, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) in Melbourne, Australia, celebrated the signing of a partnership agreement.
Peter Mac is Australia’s only public health service dedicated to caring for people affected by cancer and recognised for its excellence in world leading cancer research, education and treatment.
The agreement provides a framework for the shared commitment to improving cancer outcomes globally for all. It will drive collaborative education and training initiatives, enable joint research and clinical activities, and create new opportunities for workforce development across both institutions.
2025 has seen joint academic receptions hosted by The Christie and Peter Mac at both ESTRO and ESMO conferences and the launch of an Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Exchange Fellowship Programme, with reciprocal visits taking place at both The Christie in October and Peter Mac in November.
Another key initiative is the creation of joint clinical fellowships between the two institutions. The first Medical Oncology Fellow has been appointed and will start in July 2026. Dr Conor Moloney will spend the first year in Manchester, supervised by Dr Natalie Cook and Dr Matthew Krebs. The second year will be based in Melbourne, with supervisors Prof Linda Mileshkin and Prof Jayesh Desai, as part of this prestigious training offering.
To strengthen existing collaborations, our affiliated universities – the universities of Manchester and Melbourne, along with the University of Toronto – have formed a 3-way alliance to promote shared initiatives to address global challenges.
We look forward to creating new research and education opportunities to enable our partnership to grow, using innovative ways to work together and learn from each other’s expertise.
