Join us for our next event and hear about how The Christie Charity is helping to fund a new purpose-built scanning centre which will allows us to treat cancer smarter, faster, and more effectively.
You will hear from Prof Jon Bell and Dr Pavan Najran about how the new scanning centre will transform treatment and care for cancer patients.
Our Spotlight events are free and open to everyone, but places are limited so please book early.
Scanning is one of the most important aspects of cancer treatment. It shows where the cancer is, how close it is to nearby organs, how big it is, how well treatment is working or as part of follow up treatment. When the existing CT department at The Christie was built in 1980, it treated just 20 patients a day. Today it sees almost 60 patients a day – that’s more than 15,000 patients a year. The new fit-for-purpose scanning centre will enable Christie clinicians to scan more patients in less time and have space for the latest equipment too.
Central to our plans is housing a 4D CT scanner. The next step in imaging, it scans faster and more accurately, capturing the location and movement of a tumour and how it may affect nearby organs.
We also want to upgrade the waiting areas and changing facilities to make the environment as comfortable and welcoming as possible.
When the new scanning centre opens in 2029, it will be a future-proof facility for new treatments, groundbreaking research and procedures – all things The Christie is famous for.
We will also be joined by patient speaker Justine Carson, who will share her experience of treatment at The Christie.
