Help support research at The Christie

Someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer every 90 seconds. That’s nearly a thousand people a day.

Thanks to decades of research, cancer death rates have fallen by more than 20% since the 1970s. But at the same time, the number of diagnoses has risen by almost 50%. In short, survival is improving — but incidence is rising faster.

The Christie Charity is committed to supporting The Christie hospital’s vision of changing these statistics by allowing more patients than ever to participate in research by 2030. We’ve pledged to fund this goal with £30m over the next 5 years – but we’ll need your support to do this.

How your support will help research at The Christie

With donations and fundraising from dedicated Christie supporters like you, we want to help experts at The Christie move faster with cancer research. These experts want to:

  • learn from every patient to improve outcomes for future patients
  • help more patients take part in research, including clinical trials and real-world evidence studies
  • harness biomedical and digital innovation to speed up progress
  • bring life-enhancing and lifesaving treatments to patients sooner

Donate today and help give cancer patients more years, a better quality of life, and hope.

Your support will help realise the potential of the state-of-the-art Paterson research building, home to the largest concentration of scientists, doctors and nurses in Europe — working side-by-side to connect research directly with patient care.

This means new ideas can move faster: from lab to clinic to real impact for patients and families.

We will support the recruitment of the next generation of cancer research leaders and clinical research fellows to catalyse ‘team science’ with over 700 Paterson researchers, with the ultimate goal of improving survival rates for patients.

We can’t accept slow progress — because cancer is not slowing down. This is why research matters.

“The impact of being part of this trial is huge. There is hope and a new way to have a brilliant quality of life.” Jan Ross, Liverpool

What success looks like by 2030

With your help, we want to fund programmes that will:

  • double — then treble — the number of patients taking part in research
  • establish 30 new Paterson Research Groups and 30 new clinical academic researchers
  • treble research income, unlocking more discoveries
  • deliver 300 international conference presentations, sharing Christie breakthroughs worldwide
  • bring 30 new innovations into The Christie to improve outcomes
  • treble research outputs and impact — more grants, fellowships, publications, and practice changing advances
  • build a learning health system where real-world data and outcomes drive better care and reduce inequalities

Help us change what’s possible with a donation today.

Every breakthrough treatment, every earlier diagnosis, every prevented cancer, every extended life — they all start with research.
