A New Cancer Research Centre For Manchester

Help bring the next research breakthrough into focus

Having a centre of excellence in research in our community is something to be proud of. The Christie's groundbreaking research is the key to helping many people in the North West face the toughest times of their lives.

Research at The Christie influences the national picture too. By revealing more and more about how cancer works, survival rates from cancer in the UK have doubled over the last 40 years.

Donate today and you can help fund the research to bring the next breakthrough into reality.

How donations have supported cancer breakthroughs

Kind gifts from Christie Charity supporters have already helped fund the development of The Paterson building. One of Europe’s leading cancer research centres, the Paterson building is a state-of-the-art facility and home to what we call ‘Team Science’ – 700 world-renowned investigators, cancer experts and operational staff.

Team Science are working tirelessly together to make new discoveries and devise next generation therapies to improve outcomes for people living with cancer.

A gift from you today can support cancer developments for all of Team Science – and help to one day beat cancer.

Another example of cutting-edge research at The Christie is the proton beam therapy research room which has been made possible with help from charitable donations. Its research equipment includes a robotic arm and specialist microscopes.

These devices are helping specialists understand the way in which proton beams destroy tumour cells whilst reducing the impact on the surrounding healthy tissue. These unique insights can help develop treatments that maximise the benefits of proton beam therapy for patients.

This helping patients like Sarah Scanlan, who was diagnosed with a rare type of brain tumour in 2023. In June 2024, she became the first patient at The Christie with this type of cancer to be treated with proton beam therapy in a pioneering clinical trial. Read Sarah’s story to find out about her experience on the trial and how she found being treated in the proton beam therapy centre at The Christie.

By donating to The Christie Charity, you’re helping fund world-class research projects that could transform even more lives. With your support today, the answers will become clearer every day.
