This month, we’re putting Yin Ling Joanne Yeung and her family into our fundraiser Hall of Fame for taking on the Walk of Hope 2025 in force to support The Christie Charity.
Joanne first came to The Christie hospital in 2022, after having surgery for breast cancer at another hospital. She had radiotherapy at The Christie for this and her cancer went into remission.
But in March 2025, Joanne’s breast cancer came back. She had surgery for this again, and returned to The Christie a second time, this time for chemotherapy and targeted therapy.
Joanne said that the care she received from all the staff at The Christie was exceptional. She said that everyone was professional, competent, empathetic, kind and caring throughout her treatments.
While Joanne was at The Christie, she saw an advert for The Christie Charity Walk of Hope in September 2025. An annual 10k walk through the stunning grounds of Tatton Park, the event gives people a chance to remember loved ones, to support those affected by cancer, or to inspire hope for the future.
Joanne decided to sign up for The Christie Charity Walk of Hope to support those going through what she was experiencing, and to thank The Christie and all its staff too. Her family were very supportive and were keen to join her at the walk.
With her family’s positivity spurring her on, Joanne said she stepped up her efforts to raise money for The Christie Charity. She shared her journey with friends and family and asked them to donate to her fundraising. She said they gave very generously, some even donating all the way from Hong Kong.
On the day of the Walk of Hope, a couple of Joanne’s family members weren’t able to join due to illness, and Joanne’s 4-year-old grandson stayed indoors as a cheerleader. The group of 10 then completed the walk at Tatton Park.
“What crossed my mind when I crossed the finishing line was that I will always have lots of beautiful souls walking with me. Not just my family members, but like the other hundreds of walkers, all with a kind and warm heart; not to mention the incredible volunteers who, standing in the rain, cheered us along the way. I am truly thankful for that.
“The Christie has been there for me through every step of my cancer journey. They make a huge difference! I hope to raise funds for The Christie Charity to give back and to bring hope and love to all those in need.
