This month, we’re putting Peter Day into our fundraiser Hall of Fame for taking on The Christie Challenge to raise money for The Christie Charity while he's living with terminal cancer.
Peter was diagnosed in February 2024 and was given a prognosis of just 6 to 9 months. He was then referred to Dr Hubner’s team at The Christie to join a clinical trial. In January 2025, Peter’s tumour on his liver had grown so he was taken off the trial and started on a different chemotherapy regimen. Thanks to this treatment, Peter has lived past his original prognosis and says he now feels okay most days.
After the care he had received from The Christie, Peter wanted to fundraise for The Christie Charity, as he says he wouldn’t be here today without the clinical trials. To raise money for The Christie Charity, Peter decided to take on The Christie Challenge to complete 6 fundraising activities in 12 months.
Peter organised a wide range of fundraising activities, including selling Christmas cards, sponsored Christmas decorations on his street, and a series of charity tombola events in the Millgate Shopping Centre in Bury. He also managed to raise an impressive £2,000 with a charity night of disco artists, including an auction and a raffle.
In September 2025, Peter capped off his Christie Challenge by taking on The Christie Charity Skydive. He got 5 other people to sign up for the event with him and raised just over an amazing £4,300.
Peter’s not planning to stop there as he has more fundraising plans in the pipeline. He’s planning to do another charity tombola in Morrisons in Whitefield in March 2026, and is looking to hold a karaoke night in Bury this June.
“I started fundraising for The Christie Charity to pay something back and to help others in the future! I realised how many people were in my position, the waiting rooms full.
