Joy Harris and Keith Harrison, Christie fundraisers

This month, we’re putting Joy Harris and Keith Harrison into our fundraiser Hall of Fame for organising a charity golf day in support of The Christie Charity.

The golf day was a thank you to The Christie for Keith’s treatment for melanoma and bowel cancer. After having surgery, Keith also had 2 years of immunotherapy at The Christie, finally getting to ring the end-of-treatment bell on his 65th birthday.

In late August 2025, on Keith's 67th birthday, Joy and Keith organised the Chipper's Christie Charity Golf Day. 92 golfers took part in the competition during the day, followed by an evening of entertainment for 90 people at Ashton-under-Lyne Golf Club.

Joy and Keith said that their friends and family helped to run the charity golf day, and several local businesses donated fabulous prizes for the golf day, the raffle and the auction. One highlight was Manchester City FC donating a shirt signed by footballer Ruben Dias.

On the day itself, Joy and Keith said the weather could not have been more beautiful, with golfers teeing off surrounded by sunshine and blue skies after fuelling up with a bacon butty and a cup of coffee. A ‘Beat the Pro’ challenge took place on the 18th hole and there were also prizes for the longest drive and nearest the pin.

After the success of the golf competition, Joy and Keith didn’t get a chance to relax as they headed straight into the evening of entertainment. They decorated the tables with Christie balloons, with DJ Pete helping to create a party atmosphere.

Joy and Keith ran a series of games to raise even more money for The Christie Charity including "Heads and Tails", "Play Your Cards Right" and "Mr and Mrs". The winners were very pleased with their prizes which included a night for 2 people at The Village Hotel in Hyde, a party night for 4 and a Sunday lunch for 4, all generously donated by the Village. Everyone got to relax over a delicious buffet prepared by staff at the club, while they listened to the beautiful voice of singer Ella Yates.

Nigel Kay expertly compered the auction which was the highlight of the evening, with some fabulous prize packages and some very generous bidders. The raffle draw was the last event of the evening. Joy and Keith were so grateful to everyone who supported them and the event.

Keith delivered a very moving speech thanking everyone involved and was then given ‘the bumps’ when people found out it was his birthday! Finally, it was time for us to relax, have a drink and dance the rest of the evening away with all our friends, delighted in the knowledge that it had been such a successful and enjoyable event.

Dr Joy Harris, Christie fundraiser

We’d like to say a big thank you to Joy and Keith for their amazing fundraising efforts. Their golf day raised just over an incredible £11,160. Fundraisers like Joy and Keith help us keep supporting cancer patients and their loved ones, over and above what the NHS can fund.
