Meet Education and Employment Youth Lead, Steve Harcourt. Steve is in charge of education and employment at the Teenage and Young Adult Unit and ensures young patients at The Christie are given opportunities to develop new skills, maintain existing ones and are given opportunities to widen their professional experience.
Funded by Christie Charity supporters, Steve provides tailored emotional, practical and educational support to young patients navigating cancer treatment during some of the most formative years of their lives.
One of the many patients who have benefitted from the education and employment offer is Adil Hafezji. Adil, 20, lives in Rusholme with his parents, 2 sisters and brother. When he was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2024, he felt his life was on pause whilst he was being treated.
You’ll hear from him how the education and employment offer at The Christie has been life changing. Adil has developed the skills he needs to thrive, taking advantage of dedicated support with education, employment and future planning, helping him rebuild confidence, maintain independence and look ahead to life beyond treatment.
