Help us bring a life-changing Total Body PET-CT scanner to The Christie

More people than ever are now living with cancer in the UK. The need for cancer scans in Manchester, like so many places, is growing.

PET-CT scanning (Total Position Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography) plays a vital role in many patients’ cancer journey. It is used to help diagnose a range of different cancers, see how far they’ve spread and determine the best treatments.

Total Body PET-CT scanners are the latest and very best in PET-CT technology. They can scan the entire body quickly, in one go, and produce high quality images that help identify cancer more easily and develop faster targeted treatment plans.

But right now, the nearest Total Body PET-CT scanners are in London and Edinburgh, over 200 miles away. The Christie Charity has pledged £7 million to bring a Total Body PET-CT scanner to The Christie to help improve care for cancer patients.

This would help the hospital see more patients and look at cancer in ways that have not been possible before. Please donate below to help bring a Total Body PET-CT scanner to The Christie hospital.

As one of the most advanced scanners in the world, the Total Body PET-CT scanner captures the highest quality images of a patient’s entire body in as little as 5 minutes. This is much more comfortable for patients than standard PET-CT scans which can take up to half an hour.

They also involve a much smaller exposure to radiation which means PET-CT scans would be safer for pregnant women, babies and people with other vulnerabilities.

It will be able to detect diseases earlier in their development, supporting quicker diagnosis and helping to provide more precise and personalised patient care.

How a Total Body PET-CT scanner will help more cancer patients

Bringing a Total Body PET-CT scanner to The Christie would increase scanning capacity, offer scans to more patients, and potentially treat cancer earlier.

The Total Body PET-CT scanner would increase the number of scans for research at The Christie from 300 to at least 1,000 a year. It would also help researchers understand how cancer in one organ has an impact across the body.

This will then give Christie researchers new and powerful insights into cancer that will ultimately lead to better patient outcomes and care. It will also help attract more bright minds to The Christie and train the next generation of cancer experts.

This incredible new scanner will make a real difference to so many people facing the toughest times of their lives.

With more scans for patients and for research, please donate today to help our experts transform their knowledge of cancer and develop better treatment plans to improve outcomes for cancer patients.
