Matt’s connection to The Christie goes back to 2021 when he was referred to the hospital after a melanoma diagnosis. After surgery and immunotherapy, Matt’s now thankfully in remission.
To say thanks for his treatment, Matt decided to raise money for The Christie Charity, taking on the Spanish 3 Peaks trek in 2023. He said it was a trip he would never forget, as it helped him to find himself, meet new friends, and spend time with like-minded people.
Matt now wants to encourage other people to take part in our next trek challenge, The Christie Charity’s Mount Toubkal Trek. In June 2026, Team Christie hikers will experience the breathtaking beauty of Morocco on an exhilarating 3-day trek through the stunning High Atlas Mountains – and you could join them.
By participating in this challenge, you’ll be raising vital funds to help The Christie continue its lifesaving and life-changing work.
Matt’s already taken on a Mount Toubkal trek himself and described it as a special journey. He said it was a beautiful part of the world, and the transition between the hustle and bustle and hot streets of Marrakech, to the icy temperatures of -20°C when they reached the summit was really something. Matt and his fellow trekkers started their challenge in t-shirts and shorts and by the time they reached the summit of Mount Toubkal, they were wearing ski masks and brandishing ice axes!
“I chose the Spanish 3 Peaks, because all my previous fundraising and challenges for The Christie Charity were self-organised with friends and family. I wanted to do something directly with the hospital that saved my life, I want to spend time with the good people of the charity and be close to an organisation that will always have a place in my heart. The people in blue are special people.
“Climbing to the top of these mountains for both yourself and others in need is such a big reward. The calm and the chaos of a mountain is a beautiful thing.
