Mark England, Christie patient

“Being able to have a decent quality of life is so important, and this treatment seems to be giving me that.”

Mark England from Sandbach was diagnosed with bladder cancer in December 2025. He was told in April 2026 that a tumour in his bladder had spread and was incurable. Mark was referred to The Christie, where he started on a targeted immunotherapy treatment.

He’s currently being treated with targeted therapy and immunotherapy at The Christie and is the first patient to join the MANIFEST study, one of the largest immunotherapy studies in the country.

Dr Marija Miletić, Senior Translational Research Fellow at The Christie, is Mark’s clinical contact for the MANIFEST study which he’s now taking part in. Her post is funded by The Christie Charity.

“Immunotherapy affects people in different ways. That’s why the MANIFEST study is so important. By working with people like Mark, we can work out how the immune system responds to immunotherapy, as well as learning more about other important areas, such as side effects.”
