Phil Evans, Christie fundraiser

Phil Evans is supporting The Christie charity throughout 2022 in support of the treatment that he received at The Christie. He’s taking on The Christie Challenge to complete 6 fundraising activities in 12 months.

So far, Phil has already completed The Christie Tower Run, the Tour de Manc cycle ride and the Great Manchester Run. He’s also took on a Duathlon – a sporting event that starts with a run, followed by a swim, and finished off with another run.

Already, Phil’s got his last 2 events in his sights. He’s taking on The Christie Manchester to Blackpool bike ride on Sunday 10 July 2022 and has a second Duathlon planned to round off his Christie Challenge.

Phil says The Christie charity has been very close to his heart ever since he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in October 2018. He was referred to The Christie and Phil said the treatment he received at the hospital saved his life.

“The Christie hospital is a phenomenal place, and to put it bluntly, kept me alive.
“The care and treatment that I received there is second to none, during my treatment I saw day in day out the fantastic work that is done there, and I am taking on The Christie Challenge because I want to be able to give something back as a thank you for keeping me alive!
“On a personal note, my physical and mental health has really benefitted. These challenges keep the mind focused and I'm also fitter than I have ever been from all of the training. Thankfully I got a second chance and I'm intent on making the most of it."

So far, Phil has raised just over an incredible £1,750 with his Christie challenge events. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Phil – fundraising like this helps us keep supporting cancer patients and their families.

The Christie Challenge is to complete 6 different fundraising activities over the year. Whether you want to do a sponsored run, organise a bake sale or host an online quiz night, you can get involved.
