Alderley Edge Golf Club chose The Christie Charity as their charity of the year for 2025. The club’s Lady Captain Wendy Harrison was the driving force behind this support as The Christie hospital treated her husband. Wendy said the care, compassion, and professionalism he received at the hospital made an enormous difference to both her and her husband, and supporting The Christie Charity felt like a natural and meaningful way to give something back.
Throughout the year, Wendy and Alderley Edge Golf Club’s Mr Captain Harry Sexton organised several fundraising activities in support of The Christie Charity. These included the traditional captain’s drive-in on New Year’s Day, a 72-hole golfing challenge and a charity auction.
Wendy said that every fundraising event that the club held for The Christie Charity had its own special atmosphere and a fantastic turnout. She said that the captain’s drive-in set the tone for the year, and the 72-hole challenge was a real test of stamina but also a brilliant day for bringing the club together.
The charity auction was another highlight, with great enthusiasm from members and generous contributions. Wendy added that the club’s members supported the fundraising consistently throughout the year, and it really brought everyone together with a shared purpose.
