Preceptorships

Working together to improve patient outcomes

Supporting your transition into confident, compassionate professional practice. At The Christie, we’re committed to giving every newly registered professional the support they need to grow, thrive and feel confident in their role. Preceptorship is a vital part of that journey — helping you make the transition from learner to autonomous practitioner with clarity, reassurance and the right guidance at the right time.

What is preceptorship?

Text : Our preceptorship programme creates a structured, supportive environment where you can refine your skills, build your professional identity and continue developing as a safe and effective healthcare practitioner. You’ll be supported not just clinically, but emotionally and professionally, as you take your first steps in delivering outstanding cancer care.

Preceptorship is defined by the Department of Health (2010) as:

A period of structured transition for the newly registered practitioner during which they will be supported by a preceptor to develop their confidence as an autonomous professional, refine their skills, values and behaviours, and continue on their journey of life-long learning.

At The Christie, we bring this definition to life through a welcoming, thoughtful and person-centred approach that focuses on your wellbeing as much as your professional growth.

Who is preceptorship for?

Our programme supports:

  • Newly registered nurses
  • Allied Health Professionals
  • Internationally recruited professionals
  • Registered Nursing Associates
  • Professionals returning after an extended break from practice

Wherever you’ve come from — and wherever you hope to go — our goal is to help you build a confident, compassionate and sustainable foundation for your future career.

Learn from those who’ve been there

If you’re considering a preceptorship at The Christie, we encourage you to explore our podcast series.

You’ll hear real stories from preceptees who share their experiences, challenges, successes and advice for others beginning their journey with us.

Their perspectives offer an honest and invaluable insight into life as a new registrant at a world-leading cancer centre.
