What to expect

Guided imagery and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) are powerful techniques that support calm, reduce anxiety and enhance wellbeing. This blended learning programme introduces you to creative, evidence-based approaches that can be used in 1:1 sessions, relaxation groups, or virtual settings — helping you bring compassionate, therapeutic support into everyday clinical practice.

Across two interactive virtual sessions and one in-person classroom day, you’ll explore how voice, presence and pacing can become therapeutic tools in themselves. Course tutors Dr Peter Mackereth and Ann Carter will guide you through demonstrations, experiential practice and supportive feedback, helping you build confidence in delivering these approaches safely and effectively.

This course is ideal for practitioners who want to deepen their skills, develop their professional “therapeutic voice,” and expand their holistic toolkit to better support those experiencing stress, pain or emotional distress.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use your voice confidently as a therapeutic tool
  • Deliver structured relaxation interventions across different settings
  • Adapt guided imagery and PMR for individuals, groups and online environments
