Preceptorship Celebration

Preceptorship Celebration Event at The Christie Education Centre

Your journey. Your future. Celebrating Preceptorship.

The Christie Institute for Cancer Education’s PGUG team hosted a Preceptorship Celebration Event on Monday 27 April at The Christie Education Centre, bringing together staff to recognise the impact of preceptorships in supporting newly registered healthcare professionals.

Preceptorship provides structured support during the transition into practice, helping colleagues build confidence, develop their skills and establish their professional identity. At the Christie, this is delivered through a supportive and person-centred approach, enabling newly registered staff to feel settled and equipped to deliver safe, high-quality cancer care.

Throughout the day, preceptors and preceptees shared their experiences, highlighting the value of having consistent support during the early stages of their careers. Discussions reflected on what makes preceptorship effective, from building confidence in clinical decision-making to feeling supported both professionally and personally.

Key sessions focused on resilience, professional growth and career development. Chief Nurse Victoria Sharples led a keynote on early career development. The programme also featured a virtual session from Carol Forde-Johnston, author of ‘Thriving as a Newly Registered Nurse’, who explored how organisations can support staff to not only adapt, but thrive in their practice.

Contributions from the Royal College of Nursing also connected local delivery to wider national priorities in workforce support.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognising individuals who have made a meaningful impact through their preceptorship.
