Continuous professional development from the world leading cancer centre
Our Fellowship Programme encompasses a variety of fellowship positions which are open to both UK and internationally-based doctors and provide pathways for learning and development across multiple disciplines and disease sites at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, one of Europe's largest cancer sites.

As a fellow at The Christie, you can expect:
- Unparalleled access to clinical and technical experts with a wealth of experience in their specialist fields
- Opportunities to participate in one of the largest and most well-respected cancer research communities in the world
- Experience and support to become a clinical educator
What fellowships are available?
The Christie Institute offers a range of fellowship opportunities. Fellowships will include working with specialist clinical teams and can involve undertaking clinical research within our world-renowned facilities. Where possible, we ensure fellowships are bespoke to candidate needs and interests.
Our fellowships are advertised via NHS jobs, However, the Trust also works with individual organisations to create bespoke programmes for a range of health care professionals. Please contact us, using the form below, for further details.
UK medical fellows
The Christie offers fellowship opportunities for UK Medical Graduates looking to develop their specialist knowledge and skills in oncology. Depending on the specialty and level of training, UK Graduates may need to take an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) to complete a fellowship at The Christie.
For more information, please discuss this with your training programme director (TPD) or the supervisor for the Fellowship you are considering applying for.
International medical fellows
The Christie welcomes international candidates, and we have a vast amount of experience working with fellows from across the globe. If you are interested in working in the UK, please take a look at the information on the NHS England website, which provides useful information to help you decide whether coming to work in the UK is the right option for you.
What you need to know:
The application and agreement process for arranging a fellowship is complex and depending on the position, we suggest allowing at least 6 months to make any arrangements before the proposed starting date. There are some requirements for working in the UK; please see the links below which guide candidates on their next steps. Unless stated in the person specification for a fellowship position, you are not required to make any of the following arrangements before being offered a fellowship position and instructed by our Medical Workforce Team
To work in the UK, you need to be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). If you are from the European Union, you are eligible for full registration with the GMC. If you are from outside the European Union, you need to have passed the PLAB (Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board) Tests, or get an exemption. This is the test the GMC uses to ensure international doctors have the basic medical competence and communication skills to practice in the UK.
Overseas doctors applying for GMC registration need to also demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of the English language. To do this, they must meet certain requirements in the academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
International visitors to the UK may require a work visa. Information on this can be obtained from the Home Office website.
In addition to the above, you will also be required to provide all or some of the following documentation:
- Passport
- Visa
- Reference from current employer
- A Letter of Good Standing from local Constabulary or Ministry of Justice Department
- An up-to-date Police Check from home country or country of employment/study
Please note that you should not book any UK travel or accommodation until you are advised to do so by The Christie Medical Workforce Team. Further checks will need to be completed after your arrival in the UK before you are able to begin in your Fellowship post, including an Occupational Health check.
There are several ways that fellows can undertake their placement at The Christie, and many are directly sponsored by their current employers. Where fees may apply to a fellowship programme, these will be discussed with candidates. It should be noted that all costs associated with obtaining a licence to work in the UK must be met independently by the fellow or through a sponsoring organisation.
