What to expect

Haematological malignancies are among the most complex and rapidly evolving areas in oncology, with advances in diagnostics, targeted therapies and cellular treatments continuing to reshape how patients are diagnosed, treated and supported. As the breadth of haematology care grows, so does the need for healthcare professionals across all disciplines to build and refresh their confidence in understanding the diseases, the treatments and the complications that can arise.

This hybrid study day provides an accessible and practical introduction to haematology care, equipping healthcare professionals across all disciplines with the foundational knowledge needed to better understand, support and care for patients with haematological conditions.

Delegates will explore the principles of haematopoiesis, diagnostic pathways, treatment approaches and supportive care considerations through clinically focused teaching and multidisciplinary discussion. The programme will also address emerging therapies, blood product management and recognition of acute deterioration in haematology patients.

Learning outcomes

  • Explain the principles of haematopoiesis and apply foundational diagnostic principles to support understanding of haematological malignancies
  • Describe the pathways and tests used to diagnose haematological malignancies, including the role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Identify the key features, treatment approaches and care considerations for Lymphoma, Leukaemia, Myeloma and CLL
  • Describe the principles of stem cell transplantation, CAR-T therapy and bispecific therapies, and their role in haematology care
  • Apply safe practice principles in relation to blood transfusion, blood products and major haemorrhage protocols
  • Recognise the signs of acute deterioration in haematology patients and respond appropriately to support timely and effective management
