What to expect
As treatments for peritoneal malignancy continue to advance, the need for surgeons with confidence in complex cytoreductive techniques has never been greater. This advanced course offers a rare and highly practical opportunity to develop hands-on competence in the operative management of peritoneal disease — combining expert-led theory with immersive cadaveric teaching using fresh frozen specimens.
Delivered by senior surgical faculty with extensive experience in peritoneal oncology, this course blends anatomy, operative strategy and technical precision in a focused, supportive environment. Training takes place in small groups to maximise faculty interaction, procedural exposure and individualised guidance.
Across the online and in-person components, you’ll explore the full operative landscape, from diagnosis and MDT coordination to detailed cytoreductive techniques including:
- Peritoneal stripping and omentectomy
- Liver mobilisation and cholecystectomy
- Splenectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy
- Bowel resections and pelvic peritonectomy
The cadaveric workshop provides time and space to practise key steps, understand depth and tissue planes, and refine techniques that are essential to safe, successful cytoreduction. This is an exceptional opportunity for surgeons committed to expanding their expertise in managing peritoneal surface malignancy.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of intra-abdominal anatomy relevant to cytoreductive surgery
- Apply surgical techniques for peritoneal stripping, omentectomy and organ mobilisation
- Perform complex procedures including splenectomy, pelvic peritonectomy and bowel resections on cadaveric specimens
- Understand patient selection, MDT decision-making and perioperative considerations
- Strengthen operative judgement and technical confidence in managing peritoneal malignancy
Who is it for?
- Consultant and senior trainee colorectal, oncological, urological and gynaecological surgeons
- Surgical fellows specialising in peritoneal surface malignancy
- Surgeons aiming to advance their technical skills in complex oncological procedures
