What to expect

Pelvic exenteration remains one of the most complex and technically demanding procedures in cancer surgery. For surgeons working in colorectal, gynaecological, urological and oncological specialties, mastery of these techniques is essential to delivering safe, effective and life-enhancing care.

This advanced blended course offers a rare opportunity to develop deep anatomical understanding and refined surgical skill in a high-fidelity cadaveric environment. Delivered by internationally recognised experts in pelvic oncology surgery, the programme combines rigorous virtual teaching with an intensive full-day, hands-on cadaveric workshop using fresh frozen specimens.

Across the course, you’ll explore core principles, procedural strategies and high-level technical considerations that underpin pelvic exenteration, including:

  • Establishing the total mesorectal excision (TME) plane
  • Preserving ureters and identifying sidewall vasculature
  • Anterior and lateral bladder mobilisation
  • Incising endopelvic fascia
  • Managing the dorsal vein complex
  • Identifying the obturator canal
  • Extended lymphadenectomy
  • Sacrectomy techniques
  • ELAPE and reconstructive options (mesh, flap, omentoplasty)

Additional modules include:

  • Liver mobilisation and ablation
  • Diaphragm peritoneal stripping
  • Omentectomy (greater & lesser)
  • Cholecystectomy
  • Splenectomy
  • Salpingo-oophorectomy
  • Bowel resections
  • Pelvic peritonectomy

Small-group teaching ensures maximum operative exposure, direct faculty guidance and personalised feedback throughout.
