Patient safety
While you are at The Christie, keeping you safe and well is our priority. It's also important to keep yourself safe during your hospital stay, such as asking for help when needed, protecting yourself from slips and falls and helping to prevent blood clots.
The NHS England National Patient Safety Team have created the below video to provide tips on keeping yourself safe during your hospital stay.
Infection control
At The Christie, we are committed to putting patients at the heart of everything we do and keeping you safe from infection.
You can read about how we keep The Christie clean and free from infection on our Infection control webpage.
Screening and testing
People with a diagnosis of cancer are very vulnerable to infection. Because of this, we screen all patients for certain bacteria that can cause infections, and we screen some patients for viruses if they're having certain treatments.
You can read about some of these screenings and tests in our patient booklets:
- Information for patients about carbapenemase-producing enterobacteriaceae (CPE) screening [PDF, 101 KB]
- Information for patients about MRSA screening [PDF, 101 KB]
- Information for patients about MRSA treatment prior to line insertion [PDF, 63 KB]
- HIV testing at The Christie [PDF, 107 KB]
Patient Safety Incident Response
We also have a Patient Safety Incident Response Plan and a Patient Safety Incident Response Policy at The Christie. These documents set out how The Christie will respond to patient safety incidents reported by staff and patients, their families, and carers:
- Patient Safety Incident Response Plan [PDF, 9.14 MB]
- Patient Safety Incident Response Policy [PDF, 612 KB]
Let us know if anything's wrong
If you think something doesn't seem safe while you're at The Christie, we welcome any feedback about any aspect of your contact with the hospital. You can speak to the patient advice and liaison service (PALS) at The Christie to tell us if you think we're not getting something right.
