Do you believe that all cancer patients should have access to the best treatment, regardless of where they live? At The Christie, we certainly do.

Our main Christie hospital in Withington is delivering the very best in cancer treatment and care to patients across the North West, and our local radiotherapy centres in Salford and Oldham offer care closer to home to patients north of Manchester.

Now we want to offer the same local support to patients south of Manchester, including Macclesfield and the surrounding areas by building a world-class cancer care centre in Macclesfield. Thanks to a wave of local support, we’ve now started construction of the incredible new Christie Cancer Centre in Macclesfield.

But now we need your help for the final phase of the build.

Local care for cancer patients

Currently, thousands of patients in Macclesfield and the surrounding areas have to travel more than the recommended 45 minutes for their regular chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. Our new Christie Cancer Centre in Macclesfield will mean we can bring ground-breaking cancer care closer to home for our patients in East Cheshire.

These are patients like Bob Berry. Bob was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in 2013 and was referred to The Christie for a clinical trial at the end of 2015. After 6 months, Bob's cancer was in remission.

Bob wants more cancer patients like him to have access to the best cancer care and clinical trials. That's why he's backing our plans to bring care closer to home for patients living in Macclesfield and the surrounding areas - read Bob's story now.

This is why The Christie urgently needs funds to help the final phase of building The Christie Cancer Centre at Macclesfield. It is due to open by the end of 2021, when it is expected to see around 1,500 patients a year – that’s just over 46,000 appointments every year.

And that will make a big difference for those patients who have had to travel so far to receive their treatment.

Bringing cancer care closer to communities

Thanks to the donations of generous supporters, we've been able to start work on our impressive new Christie Cancer Centre at Macclesfield. The structural frame for the building is now complete and in March 2021, the project reached its highest point in the construction process.

The new cancer centre is 37m tall, but only 11m of this is above the ground, with foundations reaching 26m into the ground. The walls of the radiotherapy treatment rooms are 2.3m thick - about the same width as 4 domestic fridge freezers.

It's exciting to see the progress of our new cancer centre but there's still so much to do to bring cancer care closer to home for Christie patients living in Macclesfield and the surrounding areas. Today, will you donate towards the build of The Christie Cancer Centre at Macclesfield?
