Good friends and dedicated fundraisers, ‘Friends That Do’, are a Macclesfield based group who choose a different charity each year to raise money for through their annual sponsored walk and golf day. This year, following group member Dennis Meszaros’ treatment at the hospital for Melanoma, it was decided that The Christie charity would benefit from the group’s year of fantastic fundraising ventures.
This year the committee raised an amazing £6,109.77 from their 10 mile sponsored walk (which included stops at 10 different pubs on the way!), a big annual golf day and lots of on-going fundraising and raffles at their local pub and fundraising base The Bruce Arms, Macclesfield. Dennis’ granddaughter, Morgan, also raised a fantastic £100 in sponsorship.
The group have dedicated themselves to different causes each year for over two decades and we think they epitomise community spirit! Group member Lorraine explained, “We are just a group of friends who want to give something back. We originally started because a friend of ours’ son was very poorly, so we raised some money to send them on holiday. Then people started asking if we were going to do it again, so we thought ‘why not?’”.
