Team Move For Matthew, Christie fundraisers
This month, we are putting fundraising group Team Move For Matthew into our fundraising hall of fame.
Team Move For Matthew came about after a group of people from British Car Auctions (BCA) decided to fundraise for The Christie charity in memory of their colleague, Matthew Stringer. Matthew was a Christie patient for 11 months, and sadly died on 18 January 2021.
To say thanks to The Christie for caring for Matthew throughout 2020, Team Move For Matthew decided to take on a 100km walking, running and cycling challenge. Throughout March 2021, the team took on personal distance challenges with some team members racking up more than 100 miles!
In total, Team Move for Matthew raised over £10,000 in tribute to their colleague. This contributed to £5,000 of fundraising by Matthew’s family, meaning a total of over £15,000 was raised in Matthew’s name.
Their fundraising efforts have meant that Matthew’s family will now be able to get a leaf added to the Tree of Hope in The Christie gardens with his name on it. This gives them a lasting way to be able to remember and celebrate Matthew’s life.
“The treatment that Matthew received, coupled with his positivity and bravery gave him the extra time he hoped for to spend with his family making memories.
“We know that Matthew would love that we are fundraising for The Christie hospital so that they can continue to give the best care, hope, and the precious gift of time to other patients and their families.
“Matthew will be missed so much by all who were lucky enough to know him and he will live on in our hearts forever.”
