Seddon, Christie fundraisers

This month, we are putting construction firm Seddon into our fundraiser hall of fame.

Seddon is a Bolton-based construction firm. Since 1997, the team at Seddon have raised over £866,000 for The Christie charity.

The Christie is very close to Seddon’s hearts as the late Christopher Seddon (MBE), Nicola Hodkinson (director at Seddon) and several other team members have been treated at The Christie.

Seddon have committed to donate £250 for every new house it sells nationwide under its Seddon Homes brand as part of its 125 years in-business celebration. This charity pledge towards The Christie at Macclesfield will take their total donations to The Christie charity to over £1 million.

As well as this, the team at Seddon have been getting involved in a variety of fundraising activities and are halfway through completing their Christie challenge.

Andrew Finney (site manager) and Mick Jefferson (managing director) recently took part in a skydive, raising over £4,350. Andrew said, “[The skydive was] definitely the best experience I have ever had, with the added gain of raising money for charity. Looking forward to next year – although I have some pictures that would disagree!”

Team members at Seddon have also taken part in the Manchester to Blackpool cycle and Nicola Hodkinson, Vanessa Barlow (corporate social responsibility coordinator and PA) and Jonathan Seddon (CEO) have all completed the Great North Swim.

The team at Seddon are lined up to do many more activities throughout 2021.

“I did the Great North Swim to kick off our Christie Challenge. What can I say – I didn’t drown and loved every minute… and I’d do it again!”

  - Jonathan Seddon, Seddon CEO

“The Christie is not a normal hospital; it doesn’t feel or smell like one. It’s unique and that uniqueness comes from its values and The Christie teams who dedicate every day to making a patient’s cancer a bit more bearable, which is sadly something I’ve experienced first-hand.
“The Christie is about life and hope, and if this could be bottled there would be no cancer.”
“[Participating in fundraising activities] creates opportunities for our people to come together, outside of work, and enjoy some downtime at the same time as raising money and awareness for The Christie at Macclesfield. You also get to learn a lot about your people when they are completing a challenge as it really shows their vulnerability when they are jumping out of a plane, for example.”

  - Nicola Hodkinson, director at Seddon

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the team at Seddon for their fantastic efforts to support The Christie charity and The Christie at Macclesfield campaign.
