Karen Hill and Alison Sloan, Christie fundraisers

This month, we’re putting Karen Hill and Alison Sloan in our fundraiser hall of fame.

Karen started fundraising for The Christie charity last December. For her first attempt at fundraising for us, Karen raised £600 from her 60th birthday party.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Karen and Alison decided they wanted to do their bit to help the NHS. They started by making scrubs, scrub bags and headbands for local hospitals, nursing homes and GP surgeries.

As time went on, it became clear to Karen and Alison that what people needed most was face masks. Alison suggested making masks for charity and they were far more popular than they had expected.

When demand for the face masks became high, a friend, Lorna, helped out occasionally to keep up with orders. This fundraising idea is an extraordinary way to raise money for the Christie at such a difficult time.

Alison, Karen and their families have been treated at The Christie previously. Because of this, The Christie is very close to their hearts.

“The Christie is a special place in both our lives so it just seemed right to fundraise. We are amazed at how much we have raised so far and would like to thank everyone for supporting us and their kind donations.”

Karen and Alison set themselves an initial fundraising goal of £100 for their homemade masks. They’ve since beaten that, raising an outstanding £2,382!

We’d like to say a massive well done to both Karen and Alison. Your support at this difficult time means so much to us.
