Dean Cavanagh, Christie fundraiser

This month, we’re putting Dean Cavanagh in our fundraiser hall of fame.

Dean has been a supporter of The Christie since the hospital treated several of his family members. He was due to take part in the Great Manchester Run in support of The Christie. But unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was cancelled.

Instead, Dean came up with his own idea to fundraise for The Christie charity. On Saturday 11 July, Dean completed his own 'Christie loop' walking challenge.

Starting from The Christie in Withington, Dean walked to The Christie at Salford, followed by The Christie at Oldham and finally made his way back to Withington to complete The Christie loop.

The challenge covered a gruelling 32 miles and took Dean just under 11 hours to complete.

“It was an absolute privilege to complete this challenge and to raise so much money for such an incredible cause.
“The Christie have provided lifesaving treatment for several family members and each time I’ve been blown away by the facilities and pioneering research, not to mention the amazing nurses and doctors that do such great work on a daily basis.
“Walking 32 miles doesn’t even begin to show how much gratitude I have for The Christie!”

As a result of Dean’s commitment in fundraising for The Christie charity, he raised a fantastic £3,960. This will help The Christie continue to deliver cancer research and outstanding treatment and care to those who need it most.

We would like to say congratulations to Dean for completing his challenge and a big thank you for your continued support – we think you’re amazing!
